An SSB transceiver that could fit in your pocket

When it comes to various Chinese ham radio transceivers, you will inevitably start using a ton of different acronyms. You know, SSB, QRP, HF, SDR – all those things. There’s a great video that does a wonderful job unboxing the thing and taking it for a spin. So the SSB transceiver is pretty much a clone of a similar German product. It’s pretty much a low-power radio that comes with a rechargeable battery – simple as that. The video itself really is worth checking out.

SSB is not the most obvious choice for lower power operation. Still, it’s rather challenging not to wonder if you could feed the right digital data in it with the help of a mode such as PSK31 (it features lower power but decent performance). Generally speaking, there is a couple of variations of this radio on the market but they generally will set you back only a couple of hundred bucks. In some cases, you will not even have to pay as much in the first place.

The front of the radio doesn’t really have that much. Yes, there is a couple of buttons, an LCD, a rotary encoder, a speaker and a microphone. Basic stuff – not that much to talk about. If you prefer not to use the batter, you can use the power ports. There’s also a separate port that’s devised for charging the battery. You will also find ports for external speakers and microphone as well as a key port and audio connections that are best suited for digital applications. People say this radio lacks an internal charging circuit. Hence, you will need to pay attention when plugging stuff into the charge port.

On the inside, though, the radio is incredibly well-designed. By the end of most videos, you ca check out some of the contacts that the radio makes, which is pretty fun as well. While it’s a bit expensive when compared to other Ham series, it doesn’t cost that much in the first place. And besides, you can at least borrow the antenna idea from it. Of course, if you would prefer an analog alternative, it’s best to grab 7 transistors and start building an SSB transceiver.

For the record, if you are looking for additional info, you can easily find something that will allow you to make the best from your needs right here.
