It would be difficult to use wires to connect these because of their size. They are more suited to being soldered into a board and connected via flat copper traces on the surface. With PCB design, components can be arranged densely in any given area. This leads to the further miniaturization of devices which consumers appreciate.

Since manufacturing is mechanized, it is easier to scale up or down depending on the need. This makes PCB boards more economical for companies that have to produce the circuits on a massive scale. Instead of hiring more workers and training them, they can simply make the machines run longer and ensure a steady supply of materials. PCB boards look much cleaner without so many wiring crowding the surface. Since the traces are clearly visible with their orderly lines on the surface, it is easier to test them for quality control before they are sent out into the world.
